Youtube Recs

For the same reasons that I prefer owning a website over using social media, I really dislike the YouTube algorithm for discovering new videos. It's not personal at all, so here is some people who make content I believe they make for passion of the medium rather than for clicks and views.

Video Games

Razbuten

Raz makes some really enjoyable content around video games. His most popular videos are usually the ones where he discusses how his wife, who doesn't play video games, experiences them for the first time. Definitely worth watching atleast one of them. He also does videos on the systems of games such as his opinions on fast travel and consumables.

Raz

Suprise, it's Raz again! This is the channel that he posts a different kind of series to, titled "Games I played in [Month]." These are nice and short videos where he just rambles a little bit about, well, the games he played in a specific month.

Barny64

If you're in the World of Warcraft Classic community, then you've definitely already seen Barny's videos. She has the best WoW videos on youtube, and her Scarab Lord series is worth a watch even if you know nothing about WoW. She has such a great sense of storytelling that I don't think is worth a miss.

Boy Meets Girl

Boy Meets Girl is a channel made by Taryn and Nick. They make cute videos about playing video games with your partner. You should checkout any video on their channel, but my personal favourites is when Nick is making Taryn play the Pokémon games for the first time.

JVGS Jeff

Jeff's content is probably only going to be interesting to you if you're a long-term fan of Animal Crossing like myself. I have fond memories growing up using his website for guides to the games and even using his Quora forum to hang out with other people on my New Leaf island. His channel is like taking a direct hit of nostalgia, mainly just posting voice-less gameplay of any of the games.

Leadhead

Penelope describes her content the best. "Gonzo still life video essays for the overly romantic."

Film

A bit of Everything

If you're really into the MCU and want a channel to watch that isn't clickbait and rumourfests, this is the channel for you. JOOF does high quality, in depth, looks into the newest releases as well as looking back at older content. His multiverse model is the most solid I've seen and I think he's hit the nail on the head.

Karsten Runquist

Karsten is a "film guy." He's probably most known for his "what i watched in [month]" series.. It's pretty fun to hear about new and old films each month from someone who actually knows what he's talking about. Karsten is who I wish I was when I'm logging my films on letterboxd, haha.

Music

2ndgenbias

A very small channel that likes to talk about K-Pop. The video below is honestly one of my favourite videos regarding K-Pop. So if that's your thing, definitely give it a watch!

Life Style

Project Kamp

Project Kamp is a pretty unique channel to stumble upon. They bought some land and are living off of it, documenting the process as they get bigger and bigger. If you don't find yourself wanting to watch lots of content (they have been doing nearly weekly videos for a couple of years now, except for Winter.) then below is their summary of the first year in the camp. If you enjoy, then they have summaries for the later years too! Maybe you'll end up watching new episodes as they come out!

Jet Lag: The Game

Jet Lag: The Game is a rare find. Sam, Ben and Adam make a new game each season in which they usually race, play tag, or do something else whilst traveling across a country, contintent or even the world. I personally discovered them with "Tag Eur It" in which they start in the middle of Europe and one of them has to make it to their destination before being tagged, at which point the "runner" is cycled to the next person. "Why don't they take a direct train?" Well, that's because each player gets currency which needs to be used for transport, and to get more currency they need to do challenges from a deck of cards they made. The part that makes it interesting is that the chasers don't have to spend currency to travel, so they're hurling towards them and fast!

Tabletop

KrakDuk

Warhammer 40k. Glorified violence. Hell. Yeah. KrakDuk doesn't make videos playing Warhammer (like most Warhammer fans, because they have no friends) but he instead does lore. Lore!

Comics

Matttt

Matt with 4 ts has a great channel. He does dives into people in the comics and manga industry and it's all really high quality stuff. The video below is his most popular with 11M views, but I couldn't resist because the Rob Liefeld story is just too good. His videos that don't reach anywhere near that number are just as good and should definitely be seen more.
